Dear Friends, followers and supporters,
It is with great sadness and regret that we announce the end of Swansea Festival of Stitch and the cancellation of all future events. Several factors have precipitated this; we have had to weigh up the uncertainty of the impact of Covid restrictions on venues and galleries, the probable lack of funding from the Lottery and the Ashley Foundation (whose support was crucial to us running the Masterclasses and the Shop of Skills) and additionally we are unable to carry out our own fundraising events. Finally, we are losing two key members of our team and this has brought us, very regretfully, to a halt.
On a practical level we will be sorting through the refunds for all the Masterclasses, deposits for the tables at our Makers and Traders market, letting all the exhibiting artists, groups and venues know about the changes. Plus, sadly letting the artists due to work within our Masterclasses and the Shop of Skills about the cancellation of the Festival plans.
It is especially sad that we have come to a halt because we were going to be within the Elysium venue in High Street and the Glynn Vivian gallery for the Shop of Skills. It would have been a marvellous opportunity to work with two prestigious venues. We hope that arrangements for exhibitions may still be honoured and filled with work from the talented artists and groups in this area so that Swansea will once again be surrounded by wonderful textile art. Many thanks to you for all your help and support for Swansea Festival of Stitch 2016, 2018 and in preparation for 2020.
Best wishes to all
Sandra, Robi, Shirley, Karen, Fiona, Tina and Natasha
